Specialized Ophthalmic Hospital

A building of new generation, the Hospital meets the Bulgarian and world standards, and much more.

The ground floor and a large part of Floor 1 are allotted for Hospital polyclinic. Thirteen medical consulting rooms, spacious waiting rooms of area 176 sq.m. on the ground floor and 115 sq.m. on the first floor, a children’s corner (to account for patient variations in age), two reception desks and numerous amenities create a quiet and comfortable setting for the patients.

Floor 1 has a section appointed for the offices of administration and management. The Administration wing hosts offices of the open-space type and areas where the staff can take their breaks.

An entire floor is appointed for surgical activities – four operating rooms, two surgical sectors (two operating rooms in each), complete with facilities for reception and servicing of patients.

The surgical sector has the potential to accommodate all types of surgery; it meets the medical requirements for the most demanding and intricate surgical specialisms (general surgery, heart surgery, neurosurgery and others).

The two main operating rooms are situated within the architectural design, which is framed by a suspended front wall. Motor-driven blinds of full darkening effect are fitted; from the inside, the blinds are closed by a glass wall intended to preserve the antibacterial condition of the operating room. The room walls are plated from floor to ceiling with anti-reflective, antibacterial and annealed Lacobel (glass).
Resuscitation intensive care ward is designed, which serves also as a post-surgery unit. The nurse station is equipped with a medical call system for monitoring the patients.
The second surgical sector on the floor has two rooms, one of which functions as a room for plastic surgery (plastic surgeries of the eye area) and the other one is used for procedures with excimer laser of the latest generation.
Everything has been developed with long-term perspective and meets the world requirements for surgical activities.
The third floor hosts a hospital ward. A doctor and nurse station provides 24-hour care for 18 beds distributed in 8 rooms. The rooms are luxurious and comfortable; the interior design dissuades the feeling of hospital surroundings. Two of the rooms (each of two beds) are equipped with medical resuscitation panels and serve as post-intensive rooms. Each bed and each room are equipped with medical call system, which connects the patient directly to the nurse on duty.
The fourth floor hosts a compact laboratory designed to serve the hospital needs. The remaining rooms on this floor are allotted for the hospital staff.
A meeting room, a library (with overhead natural light), staff room, manager office and a lovely terrace of panoramic view are situated on this floor.
The Hospital has a spacious underground parking and a training room (of natural overhead light) situated on the same level. The Hospital serves as a training facility for physicians, too, within the system of the Medical University of Varna. The facility has a professional laundry unit equipped to meet the laundering needs of a healthcare institution and to close the service cycle. The parking area is accessible via a car lift.
The building is serviced by two staircases (main and emergency) and two lifts (passenger and a large hospital lift).
The building is provided with a unified system for management and control BMS (Building Management System). The air-conditioning, ventilation, lighting, microclimate and room parameters are monitored from a single work station. All openable front-wall sections, windows and doors are quipped with built-in motors and are controlled by the system. The Schuco – Tip Tronic system has been used. Various scenarios for the life in the building have been developed and are continuously monitored. Economies of approximately 30 – 40% are foreseen when the building is put in operation.
The external blinds adjust their orientation depending on the position of the Sun. (A weather forecast station is arranged on the roof.) Again, the Schuco system is used.
The electricity supply and the connection to a diesel generator of sufficient power to meet the needs of the entire building are monitored by a Schneider Electric’s Energy Management. This solution is energy saving. The system further allows for participation in the free electricity market.
All sanitary consumables from the consulting rooms and sanitary rooms are supplied with individual built-in chips and are monitored by a software program. This solution facilitates their use and restocking.
In order to improve the local infrastructure and appearance of the area, the small plot standing to the south of the Hospital will be landscaped and maintained by Varna Municipality. The road in front of the building has been traced and asphalt-coated, and connected to the main thoroughfare of Hristo Smirnenski Boulevard.

The Hospital is of clean design; its architecture is suggestive of technology and modernity.
The ideas have been united by the three sculptures of Varna sculptor Alyosha Kafedzhiyski, situated in front of and inside the building.

The message is clear and it says:
The people. They are the most important. We think about the people.
A new beginning – Professionalism in its proper environment.
